Concrete Countertops

When we say “unique,” we really mean it. For example, instead of using pre-sacked concrete mix, we have gathered various colours of sand and aggregate so that we can design each mix to the requirements of each project.

Other customising options include:

• colouring of the concrete: white, various earth tones, grey, and black are popular choices
• inlays: these can be almost anything. Brass and copper rings, fossils or broken glass can be added to the mix. We are always looking for new and interesting items to add character and that personal touch.
• integral features: for example, soap dishes or drain boards can be built into the counter.
• curved edges: this allows designs to be round, oblong, or sweep in an “S”
• various edge profiles: outside edges of the counter can be flat and vertical, bevelled, rounded, or “dropped”
• various depths: countertops can be from1½” to 3” deep – or even deeper. We recommend at least 2” for a truly custom look and greater strength.

Sealer Choices

We offer a choice of sealers, reactive or penetrating.

Which sealer you choose depends on the application (Kitchen, bathroom, fireplace, and interior/exterior).

Topical reactive sealers perform exceptionally well and offer stain resistant comparable to other natural countertop materials like granite or marble. Penetrating sealers allow a more tactile experience with concrete and allow it to age and develop its own patina.

Care and maintenance

Each countertop is delivered already sealed. Clean using a mild detergent. The use of bleach or harsh abrasives is not recommended.

Try to avoid repeated or prolonged placement of hot objects, dropping hard items, and cutting directly on the countertop.

Concrete is porous, but when properly sealed and maintained, it will repel most stains. Acidic fluids like wine, lemon juice, and balsamic vinegar are particularly hard on concrete, so these should be wiped up immediately.

Size limits

There is no firm limit to the overall size of a project. But for the sake of ease of handling, each part of any project is usually restricted to a length of 8 feet. Seams between the various pieces can be incorporated as design elements, and they are sealed with silicone.

Pricing

Each project is unique and is quoted on an individual basis. Prices start at $85 sq ft for a basic slab.

Orders require 1-4 weeks lead time for delivery, and a 50% non-refundable deposit. Installation and delivery to be quoted on an individual basis at $70 per hour.
